About LaRue County Schools

LaRue County Schools has a deep rich history of providing excellent educational opportunities.  The district has become recognized across the nation for providing an excellent, quality education for each of our 2,400 students.  We currently provide services to preschool through 12th grade students at 5 schools:  LaRue County High School, LaRue County Middle School, Hodgenville Elementary School, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, and staffing at The Life Connection.

LaRue County Schools has received multiple awards as a district.  Our students and their dedication to succeed has also included numerous individual awards.  Student success in academics, athletics, and college and career readiness has made our district a pillar within our community.

LaRue County Schools recognizes the importance of parental support in our students' educational success. Together we can ensure that each and every child can achieve their dreams.  Students and their success are always put first in every decision that is made.  We welcome parents, students, and other districts to visit us and see the great things our students and staff are doing!

"The students and staff at LaRue County Middle School embrace the idea of perseverance and productive struggle as a means to ascertain personal growth and achievement.  I am continually impressed with the academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular success we have achieved as a school."
- Jason Detre

The mission of the LaRue County School District, in partnership with the entire community, is to provide all students, through individualized learning experiences, the knowledge and critical thinking and life skills to succeed in a diverse society. The school system offers a wide variety of experiences to enrich the lives of our students, from academics to extra-curricular to social and emotional support at each school. The district is responsive to student needs and provides additional time and support for learning as well as opportunities for enrichment. We support students in the expectation to take ownership and pride in their progress and their future success.

LaRue County Schools has received several awards and recognition in recent years. 2016 assessment results place the district 8th out of 173 KY public school districts, achieving recognition as a District of Distinction and a Distinguished/Progressing district. In 2010 LCS was the first school district to be awarded the Dr. Johnnie Grissom award for excellence in closing achievement gaps. In 2012 the district was named one of 4 "Diamond in the Rough" districts by the Bluegrass Institute. Other awards include EdWeek Return on Investment Top 20 and The Courier-Journal Top Work Places. The district has successfully implemented a laptop learning initiative in the high school and middle school.

LaRue County Athletics provide a well-developed mix of sports so our students may realize their full potential as students and student athletes.  We are competitive at high levels in football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, golf, tennis, track, and competitive cheer.  Through dedication and perseverance our students have earned many district and regional titles.  The LaRue County Cheer program has earned not only state titles, but also national titles as well.  We have also been home to Kentucky’s Ms. Basketball in 2014.

We strive to see our students successful in sports, but our main goal is to build a student that is well rounded and provided the opportunities to be successful in life.  This includes holding our students to a high academic standard.  Our athletic program is an additional avenue outside of academics that provides scholarship possibilities for students as they pursue a college career and possibly a professional career.

Come support our Hawks as they compete and showcase their talents on the field, court, or track.  Your support helps to encourage our young athletes to give it their best to be successful!
