Steel Band Visits ALES

Campbellsville University Steel Band Visits ALES

Students and staff at Abraham Lincoln Elementary recently enjoyed an interactive concert with the Campbellsville University Steel Band. Under the direction of Dr. Chad Floyd, the band and students explored musical styles from Africa to Trinidad while learning about rhythm, tempo, melody, harmony, timbre, and dynamics. The majority of the concert included the entire student body but several students were chosen to play a variety of drums and other percussion instruments to demonstrate the concepts being taught.

ALES students received certificates for having PERFECT ATTENDANCE for the whole year.  Pictured with the students is Esther Wolford, ALES attendance clerk.  WAY TO GO ALES STUDENTS! Thanks for being here!

Way to go Alex!!!

Alex Matherly, 5th grade student at ALES, has earned an extraordinary 500 Accelerated Reader points this school year.  He's already received an invitation to the library's end of year sleepover celebration for earning two-hundred points, the medal of honor for three-hundred, and now he's the first to be named on a permanent plaque in the library media center featuring students to reach this milestone of five-hundred points.  And he's not yet finished—his personal goal is to smash all the records with seven-hundred points.
